Same-day illness
Same-day and next-day appointments for infections, fevers, sore throats, UTIs and sudden illness in Upland and Rancho Cucamonga.
- Sinus infectionsWe diagnose and treat sinus infections, usually the same day you call. Most sinus infections are viral and improve without antibiotics — part of the visit is working out which kind you have, so you get treatment that actually helps rather than a prescription that does not.
- Colds & respiratory infectionsWe assess coughs, colds and chest infections, usually the same day you call. Most are viral and pass on their own — the reason to be seen is to check whether it has moved into your chest, and to make sure it is not something that needs treating, particularly if you have asthma, COPD or a heart condition.
- Pneumonia & chest infectionsWe assess and treat chest infections including pneumonia. Unlike most coughs, pneumonia is a genuine bacterial infection of the lung tissue that needs antibiotics — so the point of the visit is telling it apart from the viral infections that do not.
- Sore throat & strepWe assess sore throats and test for strep, usually the same day you call. Most sore throats are viral and get better on their own. Strep is the one that needs antibiotics, and a swab in the office tells us within minutes which one you have.
- Ear infectionsWe diagnose and treat ear infections, usually the same day you call. Ear pain has several possible causes — middle ear infection, outer ear infection, fluid, or referred pain from a tooth or jaw — and they need different treatment, so looking in the ear is the whole point of the visit.
- Urinary tract infection (UTI)We diagnose and treat urinary tract infections, usually the same day you call. A UTI is uncomfortable and it does not improve on its own, so we keep appointments open for it. Bring a urine sample if you can, and we can often start treatment at the visit.
- Stomach bugs & food poisoningWe treat stomach bugs, food poisoning and gastroenteritis. Most settle within a few days on their own — the real risk is dehydration, which is what we check for and what determines whether you need anything beyond fluids and rest.
- Acute bronchitisWe assess and treat acute bronchitis, usually the same day you call. Bronchitis is inflammation of the airways, nearly always viral, and antibiotics do not help it. The reason to be seen is to confirm it is bronchitis and not pneumonia, and to make sure your breathing is safe.
- Asthma flare-upsWe see asthma flare-ups the same day. A flare that is caught early usually settles with a short course of treatment; one left for several days often needs much more. If your rescue inhaler is not lasting four hours, that is the point to call rather than wait.
- Headaches & migrainesWe work out what kind of headache you have and treat it accordingly. Most are tension headaches or migraines, and both respond far better to prevention than to treating each episode. If you are taking painkillers most weeks, that itself may be part of the problem.
